This book takes belief in the inevitability of war apart. Making war is not an inescapable result of human nature. Evolutionary biologist Judith Hand explores from biological and anthropological perspectives why and how we can end this brutal cultural addiction. She outlines nine areas of concern that must be addressed for an ending-war campaign is to succeed. These nine “cornerstone” efforts would underlie a coordinated strategy to secure a warfare transition as swift and dramatic as the demographic transition. Parental investment theory and the biological phenomenon of sexual dimorphism explain why success will require empowerment of women as equal partners with men in governing and leadership. Features that would characterize an enduring global peace system and the titanic struggle now occurring between two titans of human governing, patriarchy vs. liberal democracy, are also presented.
