Synopsis
After a violent car crash that leaves him disfigured, twelve year old Derek, his confidence shattered, becomes morose. He is unwilling to leave the house afraid his friends will think him a monster. Derek's father, Brian, has what he hopes is the solution to his sons fragile emotional state—an excursion to the comic con dressed as his favorite superhero, Mashup. Derek relates to the hero because he too his disfigured. The fact he can wear a mask convinces Derek to go with his father.There, Derek meets two people who restore his confidence and alter his life. Douglas Manning, a wounded vet with a prosthetic arm and leg who has not let his injuries stop him from enjoying life. And Amanda, who accepts him for who he is despite his scars.The Con is a warm and emotional story about rising above life's obstacles and not being afraid to be yourself.
