Synopsis

Get ready to shout, SPIDER!
This is a short and interactive book designed to grab and keep the attention of the participants and to help young listeners develop good listening skills.
A silly librarian invites kids to shout on behalf of a little boy frozen in fear and speechless at the sight of a spider. An adorable arachnid friend gives up his space in the park for a gentle mom with a fearful son. The goal of this book is to see readers and listeners discuss how we can become paralyzed and speechless from fear. While we all need a healthy fear of spiders and creatures that can be poisonous, we don't want to let fear cripple us in any way. Readers will see a harmless spider just as fearful and frustrated as the boy with each epic encounter. A close look at each picture will draw kids to relate to the spider's reactions as they reflect the boy's emotions. Shouting, "Spider!" and having the satisfaction of letting fear out will give kids a sense of being a part of this story and empower them to remember what they learned about the harmless spider who was just trying to find a safe place in the park to build his web. This is not intended to be an educational book about spiders or to stop anyone from having a healthy fear of spiders. Read, SPIDER! Then read, SNAKE! and BEE! for continued study of different aspects of fear. SNAKE! is a whimsically funny story that explores being trapped in the fear of the unknown. BEE! is a cheerful and uplifting story that sends readers a powerful message to be swift, brave, and be safe in the face of our fears.

À propos de l'auteur

Coming Soon, BEE! Hello, I'm Carrie Hyatt, and I'm so glad to have the privilege of sharing my stories with you. My mission is to create teachable moments that touch and bond those reading my books with those who actively listen. Readers will find something deeper to discuss and something special to learn not just from my stories, but from listening to and interacting with one another. I've always had a passion for writing and for creating teachable moments with children through my written work. My passion for teaching children graduated into homeschooling my own kids and running a homeschool group that grew to nearly 50 families and over 100 kids. I wrote curriculum and devotionals for all kinds of educational purposes for kids of all ages. Many of my children's stories were written during those precious years. I wrote, Spider! and Snake! from some of my own experiences dealing with fear and remembering my mom's techniques to help me cope. As a child, I used to get the heebeegeebees, and I became speechless at the sight of any spider. My fearless mom was always there to rescue me. She was very patient, creative, and clever with me and my siblings whenever we became fearful for any reason. I believe the Fear Not series will help equip people both young and old to conquer some of their fears through laughter and meaningful interaction. I invite you to find something deeper to discuss and something special to learn not just from my stories, but from listening to and interacting with one another. Stories available now are Spider!, Snake!, and Aria Aardvark Likes Ants (great if you have a picky eater!)
