Synopsis

What is the proper Christian attitude toward Mary, the mother of Jesus? Should Christians honor the mother of Jesus, or would such behavior conflict with the will of God? If Christians should honor Mary, why should they do so, and what form should that honor take? Does Jesus care whether Christians honor his mother? Do Christians who honor Mary receive a blessing in return? Many Christians, having never searched the Scriptures for answers to these questions, nevertheless have formed strong opinions on these matters. Wishing to promote informed interfaith dialogue, and believing that God is the true source of all wisdom (Prov 2:6), Father James Augustine Stothert (1814-1882) answers these, and other questions, primarily from Scripture in The Glory of Mary. Father Stothert concludes with the prayer that all who read this work and obey God’s word will be “transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.” (2 Cor 3:18)
