E. Bruce Connors: In War, Love, Work & Life is the story of Bruce Connors, an intelligent man from meager beginnings in St. Louis, Missouri, whose life was tremendously impacted by World War II. Bruce endured many traumas as he served in the war; his B-17 bomber was shot down, he spent weeks fleeing as a refugee, and he spent 15 months as a prisoner of the Nazis in four prisons and a prison camp. After he survived the war, he married the woman of his dreams and raised a family while striving to succeed as a businessman. Ultimately, he was very successful in most of his work endeavors and had a happy marriage and healthy children, but the scars of war continued to trouble him.
Bruce’s story is told primarily through an autobiography he wrote towards the end of his life that remained unpublished for over 30 years. Those 96 pages and Bruce’s War Log were recovered and edited by his daughter, Joanie, and her friend, Robert Whelan. The autobiography is also supplemented with many family photographs, along with the memories and thoughts of his other children; Barbara, Dan, Sally, Kathleen and Patricia Connors, in addition to several other witnesses of his life and times.
