"We will have to give account for every permissible pleasure that we forfeit."
~Rabbinical saying
This quote struck me; and stuck with me. It was somehow profoundly intriguing, and I couldn't get it out of my mind. After pondering it for a while I realized that it reminded me of my favorite Bible verse:
"Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!" (~Psalm 34:8)
I've loved this verse for years, because it is more than just a verse. It is a mindset; a way of thinking. And I believe the quote about "permissible pleasures" captures that same mindset.
We are called to a life of gratefulness for the love behind God's blessings, big and small, and He wants us to experience great pleasure in the simple joys of our lives. He also wants us to have a healthy mindset. Healthy thoughts are the foundation for taking the positive outward actions that will greatly enhance the quality of our everyday lives.
Come and join me as we explore some of these permissible pleasures God has for us.
