Synopsis

The Five Books of Moses, also known as 'The Old Testament', is one of the most ancient books of wisdom in the world. Universally recognized as a 3,500 year old text from the Middle East, authored in the period of Eastern Enlightenment, its style of challenging life-anecdotes of struggles between fellow human beings, and human beings and God, is unlike any other text from its era. Unfortunately, the Bible has often been misappropriated as a tool of religious intimidation and coercion. But what if this unusual collection of stories, attributed by many as authored by the Divine, was meant to inspire us and encourage us in positive ways, rather than intimidate us and make us feel small? What if the Bible, with its all-too-human and timeless stories, was meant to provide us with an eternal, livable truth? And what if that, positive, inspiring Truth was more relevant and needed than ever? The 'Livable Truth' Series, or 'Ma'aynei HaYeshua' in Hebrew, offers a refreshing and urgently relevant perspective on the loving intention behind the Divine voice and stories of the Bible, based upon the Jewish tradition of weekly 'Torah/Bible Portions'.These original meditations by Rabbi Shu Eliovson do not dodge the literal words of the bible, but instead directly grapple with them, illuminating a loving voice that so many wish religion could stand for in the world, but which so often is a missing voice.May we all be blessed to hear the loving call of the Divine in the daily winds of our lives, and in the timeless teachings of our ancestors.
