Tara the Rickshaw’s days are spent showing passengers the sights of her multi-cultural city located on the coast of the Indian Ocean. During her commute, she comes across a kitten who was separated from her family when a large and noisy truck drove by. As they retrace the kitten’s steps, they visit tea houses, mango groves, and the vibrant Indian Ocean. The book introduces young readers to South Asia by using a handful of Urdu/Hindi words and supplies a glossary for further understanding. There are also discussion questions to help facilitate conversations about helping others. With watercolor and digital art by Ardes Duo, first-time author Amna Nasima wanted to tell previously untold stories about South Asia, a region often underrepresented in children’s literature. The book is full of diverse characters who, along with Tara, emphasize the importance of friendship.
