For many in our generation, approaching the halftime of life is less about settling into a stable life and a secure version of ourselves, and more about steering over unsettled ground with maps for life paths that no longer exist.

We have planted our roots wherever we could find life-sustaining light. Light that has often come from sources different from those previous generations have looked to.

This book emerged from the 6 months before my 40th birthday, expanded during the 6 months following it, and marinated in the 6 years of delays and detours on the road to publication.

These stories, reflections, and meditations, collected over the course of this milestone year in my life, are for everyone entering this season of life on time, yet off schedule. Anyone who has had to fight to keep their dreams and desires from being derailed by the distractions and diversions of life.

This is not a book about wishing we could go back to our childhoods, or even to our 20s. This book is an opportunity to look around at our current lives with curiosity, to look back at our past lives with compassion, and to look ahead to our future lives with clarity.

Whether we feel like it, or not;

Whether our lives look like it, or not.;

We are the adults now, and we’ve found ways to make it work.
