Reacting to anti-Semitism, bleak economic opportunity and pogroms faced during the early 1900s, the Jews throughout the Ukraine began massively to emigrate. This book tells the stories of John Robboy and his family and relatives from Knyazhe-Krinitsa and his cousins from Sokolievka/Justingrad. We hear their daily life in the shtetl, how and why they chose to or even were forced to flee, and learn of their complicated and often perilous roads to freedom. They describe vividly the trials and tribulations they faced to acculturate in America, and for some in Israel, Argentina and even Cuba. The successes they and many of their children achieved in adapting to their new homes are heartwarming. From ingenuity, for many, came triumph.
