Bread & Oil welcomes you to a multi-course meal of poetic reflections from chef and poet Michael Rickicki, who invites readers to engage in a deeper connection to God, people, and the whole of creation. It’s an invitation Michael once received from a quiet community of friars who welcomed him and opened a space in his life to experience peace. Affectionately, Michael notes that God is not a squirrel…but He can reveal Himself through a squirrel or any created thing, from the smallest blade of grass, to the entirety of the universe. You are invited to join Michael at his table for a poetic journey to engage your spiritual palate.

Michael Rickicki is a Catholic by Irish-Italian heritage, cook by trade, and outdoorsman by grace. He lives in Upstate New York. Born and raised in the foothills of New York's Southern Tier along the Genessee River, Michael has spent most of his time in the outdoors hunting, fishing, and cooking. He aims to share his love for creation with others through food and writing. He believes that Christ is actively making all things new, and is revealed through everything from the smallest blade of grass to the entirety of the cosmos. After living with the friars of Mt. Irenaeus, he began to practice a more monastic approach to life, which is clearly expressed through his writing and work as a chef.
