Janus ~ Gateway to Heaven on Earth tells John’s story, from a tiny croft in Scotland, to the end of his army career where he happened to be stationed on Guernsey, but it was on Alderney he found the peace he was seeking for, and eventually, quite unconsciously he found love and a family who adopted him as their own.
Hannah Renier had a soft spot for Harry Hopkins from London, the Nipper on the Heresa, which frequently visited the island, to deliver coal and items the tiny islanders were unable to grow or make themselves, but Harry was reluctant to reciprocate her affection?
This novella tells the story of these strangers to Alderney, but also of the island’s tight knit community, during the mid to late 19th century. It is a story of the stresses and joys of family and island life, of celebration, love but also of loss.

À propos de l'auteur

Arthur and Patricia Jackson grew up in Woolston Southampton. Arthur served in the RAF around the end of the war, and was flown in a Sunderland from Calshot Spit, dropping food parcels over Berlin. His life's career was working as an industrial chemist with the CEGB. Patricia worked in the local Boots in Southampton before having a family, but became a primary teacher later on in life.
Arthur's grandmother, Harriet, was born on the island of Alderney in 1871. Following a family holiday, when he shared memories of his grandmother and her story as he knew it, his daughter Diana Jackson was inspired to do some research of her own and write her debut novel Riduna.
Meanwhile, Pat and Arthur set about researching their family history, with many visits to Alderney, Guernsey, Southampton and Liverpool.
It was the story of Harriet's step-father John which intrigued Arthur most, and also the mystery of the deaths of Harriet's parents, his grandparents. Thus, between the couple, they began to write this story, which they called 'Heaven on Earth'.
