Synopsis

A New World After Pearl covers the period from 1942 to 1945. It tells the story of how the inventions and organisations which Britain had developed to defend her freedom (as described in The Intelligence Zone) also served her new comrades-in-arms, Russia and America.

A lot happened in The Intelligence Zone (see map inside) after Pearl Harbour; some of it to do with the Special Operations Executive, who, along with the Czech government in exile, planned the execution of Reinhard Heydrich, the most dangerous of all the Nazis. SOE also sabotaged the German nuclear efforts; and landed many saboteurs behind enemy lines. Some of them worked for the creator of James Bond, Ian Fleming; and inspired his stories.

That is not to say that the tale is all of smoke and mirrors. The destruction of the German U-boat fleet was largely down to advanced tracking techniques, eavesdropping, code-breaking, radar and weapons developed in the Intelligence Zone. Indeed, many history-shaping events took place there, including the birth of the Information Age and the first ballistic missile war; targeted slap-bang on ‘sleepy London town’.

The book also deals with the interplay between Britain and the United States of America; how they fought together as allies; and how the Pax Britannica was replaced by the Pax Americana.

Be prepared to be excited, moved …and educated; for these are not tales of fiction; but the accounts of real people; sometimes terrifying, sometimes heart-breaking, sometimes humorous – always illuminating. They are set in a time and place when a new world – our present world – took shape.
