Synopsis
Crombie Saunders was a man who, in his keenness to promote the literary flowering of his time, sidelined his own talents, but he deserves recognition as a poet in his own right, as this collection proves beyond doubt. Here is a poet well worth the name; masterly in his craft, with an acutely sensitive lyrical ear and lightness of touch. The poems achieve a power and gentle poignancy at times reminiscent of the English poems of William Soutar, giving us a profound sense of mystery and ‘the beyond’, and a deeper understanding of nature and ordinary human life. These superbly-crafted poems take us on a journey through the vagaries of life towards a greater vision which brings understanding, delight, and a sense of peace.
