Synopsis

In the quiet corners of Langmeil Cemetery in the Barossa Valley, where vineyards stretch toward the horizon, lies the earthly resting place of Henry Proeve. A chosen servant, grafted onto the "True Vine", he walked the path of faith with unwavering dedication.

Born nine days before the end of the First World War as the son of a Lutheran pastor, Henry's journey defied convention. The treatment of his father, unappreciated by Church leaders, cast shadows on the vocation. Yet, armed with a university degree, Henry embraced his calling. The Lord chose him as His child, and through the Church beckoned him into ministry.

As Secretary of the Lutheran Church of Australia, Henry's unseen labour shaped the very foundation of our faith community. Behind closed doors, he wove threads of unity, bridging the chasm left by historical doctrinal divisions. The work of the Joint Union Committee, the silent architect of the newly reconciled Church, bore his fingerprints.

Henry wasn't a seeker of titles or accolades. His honours - like the Order of Australia Medal were mere echoes of a life rooted in service. He climbed no ladders; instead, he tended the vineyard. His legacy? A Church blessed by his quiet resolve.

The Way I Remember... invites you to explore the unassuming man who bore fruit - a testament to the Divine choice that shaped his every step.
