A virus has decimated humanity. Terrifying creatures have appeared, standing in the fields like scarecrows during the day, hunting their prey at night. Icarus and Charlton survive on their sugar cane farm in Far North Queensland with their dog, Fiddich, keeping the farm going in the hope that life may return to normal one day. Rus sees the world in colours and meaning, while Charlie is driven by pragmatism.
Tension is building between the two, heightened by the arrival of Adam - a charming and manipulative ex-solider who hides dark secrets. As the crows surround the farmhouse and neighbours and friends begin to disappear, the land becomes bleak, and hope starts to fade.
The farmhouse is a fortress of sorts, but Rus and Charlie need more from the world, and time and the elements are against them.
