Synopsis

Station Boys is a heart-warming love story about two young men, each struggling with their own identity, who find each other in the most unexpected of places - a cattle station in the Australian outback.

Nineteen-year-old Jack Sinclair lives on Brigaband Downs in western Queensland. He's quiet and hardworking and is expected to take over the family property one day. Jack cannot - dares not - imagine a future beyond the station's boundary fences. But when Ollie, a confident English backpacker, arrives for seasonal work, Jack's world is turned upside down.

At first, Ollie's easy charm and infectious laughter initially seem out of place, but as he proves himself, a slow friendship begins between him and Jack. As they spend long days mustering cattle and exploring the breath-taking landscape of Queensland, their bond deepens and ignites into a love that neither can deny.

For Jack, who has spent years trying to suppress his sexuality, Ollie represents everything he wants but will not allow himself to have - freedom, choice, and possibilities that extend beyond the station's front boundary gate.

But Ollie was never going to stay forever and with his departure looming, Jack is faced with some difficult decisions. He must confront what he truly wants from his life and decide whether loving his home means staying there forever and forsaking love and happiness. Or should Jack leave to discover who he really is and what he wants from life?

For fans of LGBTQ+ romances like Brokeback Mountain and Call Me By Your Name, Station Boys is a must-read. Don't miss out on this captivating story of love, self-discovery, and the courage to follow your heart.

"I read this for the romance, but what pulled me in most was Jack’s quiet struggle between loving Brigaband Downs and feeling trapped by the life already planned for him...I also loved how the Australian outback is not just scenery, but part of the pressure Jack feels around family, duty, and identity. By the end, the story felt less like a simple first-love romance and more like watching someone finally begin to choose himself." Selena Marie Wrencher.

"Station Boys by D.B. Rocher is a grounded, heartfelt story that pulls you straight into the rugged rhythm of rural life. The characters feel real from the very first chapter - flawed, loyal, stubborn, and shaped by the land they work. "This is a warm, dusty coming-of-age romance about Jack, a nineteen-year-old station kid who thinks he already knows his whole life... A lovely read if you want Australian rural romance with heart, heat, and a goodbye that isn’t really the end." S.M. Davies.

"This book was really really good." Jaqueline Harr.
