He has been a member of the Scout Association since he was eight years old, and has been a registered leader for over fifty years. During this time he has been both a Scout leader, a Cub Scout leader and a Commissioner. Working with children in his way has given him a close knowledge of children from 7 to 16 years old. He wrote two books for the Scout Association. He and his wife have travelled extensively both through Europe, USA and Australia. He has met manypeople from different backgrounds and cultures. Up until recently he was a keen golfer but wobbly knees have put paid to that.Barry likes to draw and attends a self-help drawing class each week. He also likes to make things and works as a volunteer at the Scout Camp at Glenrock near Newcastle each week. Barry continues to write children's fiction, drawing on his own experiences and how the bush and Scouting helped him appreciate the world around him.
