Luma's Light is a lyrical and soothing picture book that gently explores fear of the dark through the eyes of Luma, a young anglerfish who loses her glow.
When her soft, glowing lure disappears, Luma finds herself alone in the vast, silent deep. Feeling small, lost, and afraid of what might be hiding in the darkness, she sets off in search of the light she's lost.
As she journeys through the mysterious ocean, Luma encounters remarkable sea creatures who each reveal a different way of living with the dark-and even embracing it. With every encounter, she begins to discover that courage can be quiet, and that perhaps the light she's searching for isn't the only thing waiting to be found.
Tender, atmospheric, and emotionally resonant, Luma's Light invites young readers to see darkness not as something to fear, but as something full of wonder, stillness, and quiet beauty.
Perfect for bedtime reading, this comforting picture book is ideal for children aged 5-8 and for families looking to share a gentle story about courage, self-trust, and finding light in unexpected places. With hand-painted watercolour illustrations inspired by the extraordinary creatures of the deep sea, Luma's Light offers reassurance to children who sometimes feel small in a big world. It gently reminds readers that even in the deepest night, they carry a light of their own.

Bee Naree, who firmly believes that anglerfish deserve better publicity. She is a children's author, illustrator and artist based in Devonport, Lutruwita (Tasmania), Australia. She creates hand-painted stories inspired by nature, curiosity and the magic of being different. When Bee isn't writing or painting, she's usually wrangling her five kids, folding endless baskets of washing, or politely asking her cats to stop sitting on her laptop (or her illustrations). A qualified family day care educator and teacher assistant, Bee knows children are the funniest-and most honest-critics. She has also illustrated The Toad from Poad Road series by Ash Lee and The Whale and the Astronaut by Alaynah Hensen. Luma's Light is her debut picture book as both author and illustrator.
