Mercedes Moffat attended Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York, The University of Toronto, and The University of Buffalo which is now named The State University of New York at Buffalo. Her primary studies were in psychology, English, and counselling psychology. This background brought opportunities for high school counselling, clinical counselling , and finally approximately twenty years of instruction at first and second year university studies in psychology at Northern Lights College in its university transfer program.
