This pocket-sized, easy-to-use guide to the birds of Zambia features 425 birds likely to be seen in the region, plus a few 'specials' sought after by birders. Concise identification text for each species contains key ID pointers and a description of their call and favored habitat. The accounts are accompanied by full-color photographs illustrating diagnostic features and plumage differences (such as those between male and female or breeding and non-breeding birds). Distribution maps are provided for all featured species. An informative introduction comprises a habitat map, glossary, labelled bird diagrams, and descriptions of the habitats in Zambia and the bird species to be seen there. Light and handy for use in the field, this will be an excellent guide for local birders and visitors alike.

Derek Solomon has been birding since his school days. This passion led to a career change which saw him running bird identification courses, guiding training programs and leading special interest safaris in southern Africa for over 35 years. He has published several books on bird identification and animal behavior, including one on LBJs (Little Brown Jobs), and a behavior guide to the mammals of Zambia's South Luangwa National Park. Together with two colleagues in Zambia, he recently published a digital application, 'Birds of Zambia'. He spends much of his time recording nature sounds, including those of birds, mammals, amphibians and insects.
Rory McDougall has had a passion for birding since childhood, winning his first pair of binoculars at the age of 14 in a bird-nesting data essay competition at school in Zimbabwe. Rory later graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BSc in Zoology and Botany, thereafter working as a professional wildlife and bird guide and wildlife consultant. In 2015, he founded the first wildlife safari guide training school in Zambia. He is co-author of a series of digital books covering common Zambian flora and fauna for students and the digital application Birds of Zambia.
