Frederick Winslow Taylor was one of the intellectual leaders of the so-called "efficiency movement" and his ideas were highly influential in the progressive era beginning in the 1890s. His approach is also often referred to as "Taylorism".
In "The Principles of Scientific Management", first published in 1911, Taylor summed up his efficiency techniques. Frederick Winslow Taylor was also an mechanical engineer who sought to improve industrial efficiency.
