Synopsis

“At times your stars are shining bright. They feel so strong, and real and right. But then you fall…” Join pals Star and Cloud as they explore a “curious trick” to navigating the emotional ups and downs of life.

Finding Your Stars is a beautifully illustrated children's book that encourages children – and their adults – to identify and nurture their strengths and talents, while also accepting their fears and difficult emotions. Featuring a complex relationship between endearing star and cloud characters, it provides kids, parents and caregivers with a helpful tool to reflect on and practice mindfulness, emotional self-regulation and self-compassion. It also helps deepen the bond between parent and child by sparking meaningful conversation and connection.

Finding Your Stars provides kids, parents and caregivers with a helpful tool to reflect on and practice mindfulness, emotional self-regulation and self-compassion — while sparking meaningful conversation and connection.

With emotive watercolour illustrations and lyrical writing, this book aims to bring your family closer by inviting kids and adults to celebrate their strengths and share their struggles, together.

“This is definitely a great tool for self-regulation, self-compassion and increasing awareness of the emotional parts that each child holds — the clouds and the stars.”
— Lisa Azzopardi, Registered social worker, psychotherapist at Catalyst Therapy

"My family loves Finding Your Stars! It can be so easy for our kids (and us as parents) to be hard on ourselves and focus on what isn't going right. This story is a beautiful reminder of how we can embrace those 'falls' and still shine bright as they make us better versions of ourselves."
— Neetu H. White

“A simple yet powerful story that acts as a wonderful emotional regulation tool for the whole family. I love how the words and illustrations bring this beautiful story to life!”
— Allison Villa, Psychotherapist and relationship expert

“I love it! It is so sweet, it brings tears to my eyes. I also like the mindfulness lesson — I learned a lot from it.”
— Dr. Alison Janes Family physician and mother of three

À propos des auteurs

Carolyn Morris is a Toronto-based writer, former journalist and mother. Having struggled to navigate the emotional rollercoaster of becoming a new parent, Carolyn wrote the book as a gift to her younger self. Originally she intended to showcase the value of positive thinking and of investing in strengths. But the book took on a life of its own, evolving to emphasize the importance of making space for our negative emotions as well. Finding Your Stars is her first children's book.

As a little girl, Lena would get lost in children's books and their illustrations. She would pore over the stories by the dim light of her desk lamp and copy drawings from those books. She learned to draw all kinds of things that way. As a grown-up, not much has changed. She still loves art, design and storytelling. Lena hopes she can inspire children to embrace their stars and shine brightly, so the world can appreciate their unique talents.
