Synopsis

“I’m a controversialist. People either swear by me or swear at me.” Lloyd Percival

During his extraordinary career as an athlete, a health and physical fitness expert, and a media personality, but primarily as a coach, millions of Canadians swore by Lloyd Percival because he was a coach like no other coach Canada has ever seen. He not only instructed individual athletes and teams; he coached the coaches, and he shared his expertise with an entire nation. He did it personally, and he did it through print, radio, and television. For decades a household name from coast to coast, Percival was one of the most successful and influential figures in Canadian sport during the era of profound change following WWII. He became a popular hero because he loved to speak his mind and the bane of the establishment because he insisted upon it.

"A must read book about a man who was ahead of his time and influenced hockey in North America and the entire world. Percival’s Hockey Handbook changed the on and off ice culture of coaching at every level."
LOU LAMORIELLO, PRESIDENT OF HOCKEY OPERATIONS & GENERAL MANAGER, NEW YORK ISLANDERS

A fantastic read and contribution to an understanding of the development of sport in Canada during the ‘Golden Years’ of the 1960’s and 1970’s. For me, Lloyd Percival was the equivalent of today’s Richard Branson, hugely creative and visionary.
DR. ROGER JACKSON, OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST
AND FOUNDING CEO OF ‘OWN THE PODIUM’, VANCOUVER 2010

A nice tribute to a hockey brother. Percival was ahead of his time. Most of his beliefs became reality and he left a wonderful legacy - the great Soviet coach Tarasov admired his thinking and used his ideas.
LOU VIARO, FORMER DIRECTOR OF COACHING EDUCATION USA HOCKEY
AND COACH OF THE 1984 USA OLYMPIC TEAM
