À propos de l'auteur

Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Cuban immigrant parents, Sam Rodriguez Morhaim is no stranger to the challenges of displacement. His family's journey from Cuba to America in1962 shaped much of his worldview. He grew up in the Canarsie neighborhood of Brooklyn, where his parents, Julio and Victoria, instilled in him and his brother Jaime the importance of education and family. Both sons excelled academically- Sam pursued a career in dentistry, specializing in periodontics, while Jaime became a dermatologist.Currently residing in Glen Cove, New York, and has three children, Alexander, Daniel, and Isabella. Morhaim balances his professional life as a Periodontist Surgeon with his passion for storytelling. His strong commitment to family continues to be his guiding principle, both in life and in his writing. Morhaim attributes the creation of Where Are All My Toys? to casual conversations with his patients, many of whom encouraged him to share his family's story in a format that could resonate with young readers.A Growing Series for Young ReadersWhere Are All My Toys? is the first in a planned series of books inspired by the Morhaim family's journey from Cuba to the United States. While Morhaim has written two additional books and translated the original into Spanish, they have yet to be published. Nevertheless, his continued efforts are a testament to his desire to share the immigrant experience with a wider audience.Events and Future AppearancesMorhaim had several book-related events planned before the COVID-19 pandemic halted much of the in-person promotional activity. However, as the world opens up again, readers can expect to see him at future book signings and speaking engagements at venues such as Barnes & Noble, schools, and assisted living facilities. His book was also prominently featured in the LA Times Book Festival and the Miami Book Festival, with plans for more appearances in the coming years.A Reminder to Cherish FreedomAt its heart, Where Are All My Toys? is more than just a story about a child's loss. It is a reminder of the privilege of living in a free society, where democratic values should be both cherished and protected. It offers American readers a window into the experiences of families who, like the Morhaim's, left everything behind in search of safety and a better future.Morhaim's work stands as a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit, and his story is an important addition to the growing body of children's literature that tackles the immigrant experience with sensitivity and grace.
