Synopsis
This book investigates the processes that generate and modify the Earth's continental crust at subduction zones. Whereas divergent plate boundaries involve the generation of oceanic lithosphere and the splitting of continental lithosphere, it is at convergent boundaries - where much of the tectonic, metamorphic and igneous turmoil leaves its imprint on the geology of continents, is active. This book investigates how continental growth and continental evolution occur at subduction zones. Case studies of volcanic and tectonic activity at selected plate boundaries (including the Andes, and Santorini volcano in the Aegean Sea) illustrate the key processes.
