Synopsis

This book contains 2 units; Unit 4 Surveys. This unit concentrates on stage 2 of the modelling diagram, collecting data. It describes the basic principles of selction and introduces a method called random selection, or random sampling. It examines the effects of simple random sampling and introduces a modification of this method, called systematic random sampling, which is of great practical importance. This unit also introduces the idea of a sampling distribution, which forms the theoretical basis of methods introduced in later units. Unit 5 Relationships. This unit investigates the relationship between two variables. It descibes what is meant by a relationship between two variables and introduces scatterplots in detail, in particluar addressing which variable should be plotted on which axis. PLEASE NOTE: Some of the activities in this book require the use of the statistical software package, Minitab and other module resources.
