Synopsis

This book contains 3 units; Unit 10 Experiments. This unit discusses the nature of experiments, and teaches statistical methods that are suited to the analysis of small sets of data. It will provide an opportunity to gain hands-on experience of collecting empirical data - that is, data collected through observation or experimentation. Unit 11 Testing new drugs The focus of this unit in on one particular aspect of medicine: drug testing. This is one of the most important areas in which scientific experiementation has been applied. In drug-testing, and in the whole of scientific experiementation, statistics play a very immportant role. It is this role that is described in this unit. This unit also provides further examples of how statistical ideas fir into the process of making decisions in the real world. PLEASE NOTE: Some of the activities in this book require the use of the statistical software package, Minitab and other module resources. Unit 12 Review. This unit is designed to consolidate your learning of the previous units. It describes some extensions of ideas introduced, as well as a small number of new statistical ideas.
