Todays parish is entering a time of both challenge and opportunity. Churchgoers and priests are growing older and fewer, and the Church itself has lost much of its credibility. It needs a new vision, one which will imbue the parish with a revitalised energy and hope. Pope Francis is offering us a new direction as a missionary church and the challenge now is not about how we can restructure our parishes, but how we can restructure our minds. It is about thinking of thriving, not surviving. This revised edition of Tomorrow s Parish sets out the priorities for the parish as the Church enters a new phase, particularly highlighting the role of the family with the celebration of the World Meeting of Families in Ireland. It contains a new chapter on the family and a foreword by Archbishop Diarmuid Martin. This book is for anyone who has an interest in the future of the Church. It will be of particular importance to those involved in parish ministry and parish pastoral councils, offering a fundamental resource for their formation and organisation in a new context.
