Synopsis

Home for Now provides styling and DIY advice on creating a beautiful home, whether you are making over or making do. More people are renting now than ever before, but the rental market remains surprisingly unflexible, with many tenants banned from making even the simplest alterations, such as hanging a picture or painting a wall. Even those who have managed to take that first leap onto the property ladder often find themselves with no cash left to renovate, so their first home is just a short stop-gap to their forever home ; they resort to a renter's mindset, unwilling and unable to invest vast sums in the fabric of their property and instead making do with quick fixes. Home for Now provides a blend of both inspirational and practical advice, showing how canny tenants have transformed their temporary abodes into stylish spaces. Organised by area of the house; Living Spaces; Kitchens and Dining; Bedrooms and Bathrooms; Creative Workspaces; and Plants & Outdoor Living the book showcases standout interiors and offers helpful hints and tips. There are also simple step-by-step DIY and craft projects that both renters and DIY-phobic homeowners can easily achieve to make their temporary living spaces feel like home.

A propos du livre

À propos de l'auteur

A freelance interiors stylist and writer from London, Joanna's work spans across editorial (magazines) and commercial (anyone else!) clients, across print and online media, events, broadcast and consultancy. Whether producing photoshoots, writing articles or compiling shopping pages, her accessible approach to interiors and love of colour and pattern is evidenced throughout her work. A passion for craft and DIY means she is always working on new projects, whether for clients or her own home. Her first book, Home For Now, comes as a response to a lack of media geared towards the ever-increasing Generation Rent who, along with first-time buyers who have invariably spent all their cash on a steep deposit, find themselves looking for thrifty, creative and out-of-the-box decorating ideas, without doing anything to upset their landlord or risk their investment. Packed with styling ideas and simple makes, it proves an invaluable read for anyone looking to set up a new home. To learn more about her work, her website can be viewed at www.joannathornhill.co.uk, or for more personal insights, her blog, www.stylistsownblog.wordpress.com, chronicles designers and events that catch her eye, along with an account of the shoestring renovation of her first home-for-now, a "ramshackle" terrace in north-east London.
