Somewhat unusually for a novel, P. Theophilus writes a preamble which includes a statement of intent: to tell the story objectively, from the observational end of the continuum; to not impose the author’s perceptions onto the reader. And at the same time, owns that such a goal is impossible to fully achieve: there is an inevitable degree of manipulation in the author’s choice of which parts of the story to tell, for no story can be told in full.
