Besides all the hatred and hostility between nations, we have natural disasters (so called ‘acts of God’) such as floods and famines, earthquakes and hurricanes. So much so that the whole creation groans! Then, at the personal level , we have illnesses, and accidents, mental and physical illnesses, pain and anxieties ... what Shakespeare calls ‘the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune’. Some think that Christians, or righteous people, should not suffer from these, but that is not so. In fact, we should expect such suffering, just as the first Jewish Christians did during Acts (Romans 8:22). So can any good come out of suffering? Is there any purpose in it? These are the questions the author attempts to answer.
