First published in 1910, A CALL is British author Ford Madox Fords study of the devastation that couples can wreak upon one another. Devastation can strike even in a drawing-room. It can strike the man who means to be a good husband, the lovely woman who intends to be an impeccable wife, and the man who brought them together. A CALL goes right to the heart of Edwardian London, a world of evening gloves, satin opera cloaks and unexpected calls.
