Owen John Thomas was born in Cardiff and has lived in his beloved city all his life. He learnt Welsh in his twenties and committed himself from a young age to the advancement of the Welsh language in Cardiff and the promotion of Wales as a nation. He was a strong advocate of Welsh medium education in Cardiff and has named many of its schools based on his expert knowledge of the city s history. He was the founder of Clwb Ifor Bach and completed an MA on the Welsh language in Cardiff in 1990. He was an Assembly Member between 1999 and 2007 and during this time he served as the Shadow Minister for the Welsh language, culture and sport. He is married to Sian, is the father of six and a proud grandfather.
