Paula Fyans has experienced first-hand what it is like managing the Invisible Job from the perspective of a working mother with an international career (in pharma and university) and as a stay-at-home mum. When she gave up her job to restore balance to family life, she learned about life as a full-time parent. She discovered that the grass is no greener, instead it just presents a very different set of challenges. The Invisible Job features insights from many interviews she has conducted with women about their personal experiences of the challenges of managing parental and home responsibilities, either full-time or on top of a career. Drawing on her scientific background, it also examines extensive demographic, economic and gender-based global research into how responsibility for parenting and running a home is shared by couples and the way an imbalance in this role impacts women. Paula has lived and worked in the UK, Ireland, Australia, Germany, France, Malawi and South Africa. She now lives in Dublin where she is (most days!) very happily married with two children.
