Hardcover. Etat : New. Noting that 'her body of work creates a kind of looking glass in which, dimly, we make out the person who wrote it,' Fiona Sampson loosely structures this biography of Elizabeth Barrett Browning around her 1856 epic poem Aurora Leigh. Drawing on recent archival findings, she explores Browning's engagement with topics including abolition and child labour as well as her defiance of expectation and the contemporary reception of her writing.
