Synopsis

This title supports the following learning objectives for Key Stage 2 Science. Students should be taught to: Recognise that they need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light; notice that light is reflected from surfaces; recognise that light appears to travel in straight lines; explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into our eyes. Recognise that shadows are formed when light is blocked by an opaque object; explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them and find patterns in the way that the size of shadows change. Each book in this series of 10 gives students the chance to work scientifically: 1. Ask questions and use scientific enquiries and evidence to answer them 2. Set up simple practical enquiries and tests 3. Make observations, take measurements, use scientific equipment 4. Gather, record, classify and present data using scientific language, drawings, labelled diagrams and charts 5. Use results to draw conclusions, make predictions and ask new questions. This series is supported with free downloadable teacher resources and worksheets.
