Synopsis

This work focuses on the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. The chapter titles and subtitles show the range and practical nature of the topics covered: •The Godhead and Personality of the Spirit: The Nature and Necessity of Experimental Religion •The Spirit a Quickener: The Soul Before Conversion •The Spirit a Quickener: The Soul After Conversion •The Indwelling of the Spirit: The Believer, a Temple •The Sanctification of the Spirit: The Necessity and the Nature of True Holiness •The Sealing of the Spirit: The Believer, an Epistle •The Witness of the Spirit: Jesus the True God, and His Work All-Sufficient •The Spirit the Author of Prayer: The Believer Drawing Near to God •The Spirit a Comforter: The Broken Heart Bound Up •The Inbeing and Operations of the Spirit in Christ In common with all the writings of this well-known Victorian preacher and author, this work is solidly based on the principal passages of Scripture relating to the person and work of the Holy Spirit and aims to deepen the believer’s experience of the Spirit’s presence and work. First published in 1840, this edition is based on the fourth edition including the addition of the final chapter, and has been completely re-typeset for re-issue in this format.
