Synopsis

As the name indicates, KOINON is a journal that encourages contributions to the study of classical numismatics from a wide variety of perspectives. The journal will include papers concerning iconography, die studies, provenance research, forgery analysis, translations of excerpts from antiquarian works, specialized bibliographies, corpora of rare varieties and types, ethical questions on laws and collecting, book reviews, and more. The editorial advisory board is made up of members from all over the world, with a broad range of expertise covering virtually all the major categories of classical numismatics from archaic Greek coinage to late Medieval coinage. Nicholas J. Molinari, MA, MEd, is a doctoral candidate in Humanities at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. His dissertation, in preparation, concerns Acheloios in relation to Thales and the origin of philosophy, and incorporates archaeological and numismatic evidence to paint a more robust picture of Thales and the emergence of philosophical activity. He is the co-author, with Dr. Nicola Sisci, of Potamikon: Sinews of Acheloios. A Comprehensive Catalog of the Bronze Coinage of the Man-Faced Bull, with Essays on Origin and Identity (Oxford: Archaeopress, 2016).
