Synopsis

Mr Polinski was a kind old man who ran the local shop that never closed. When he’s gunned down during an attempted robbery, the police are too understaffed to properly investigate. But Lauren Corrigan refuses to allow the murder of her favourite shop owner to go unpunished and decides to launch her own investigation. She may have no training but through her ex-lover, Detective Carl Robbins, Lauren feels she has picked up enough knowledge of the detective’s job to stand a chance of solving the murder. When Carl is officially assigned to the case he is far from happy with Lauren’s activities, although Lauren has no intention of backing down now.

The deeper Lauren delves into the mystery, the more suspects she uncovers. As her investigation begins to take too many unexpected turns, however, she begins to realise that perhaps she should have left the detecting to the professionals. But things would have to be very bad indeed for her to contact Carl and ask for his help. Lauren would prefer to confront the gunman face-to-face than admit her ex-lover may have been right after all.
