Synopsis

Gideon Brown, son of a liberal family and named after the famous indigent in the U.S. Supreme Court case Gideon v. Wainwright, who won the right for the poor to have counsel, went to the Peace Corps after college. After witnessing a horrible event in South Africa, he knew his future was in law, and he began his career at a huge firm. Gideon gets the case of his life as a six-year associate wanting to make partner. He defends a well-known pharmaceutical company against a whistleblower who claims a drug they marketed is unsafe. As the case unravels, a key company witness is murdered. Gideon eventually discovers the surprising truth, which leads to a suspenseful ending.
