M S Morgan a retired British Police Senior Investigating Officer, investigates the available evidence of UFO sightings by the RAF and USAF in the UK from 1950 to the present day. Drawing on 30 years experience as a senior detective having investigated murders and other serious crime, M S Morgan also has a wealth of knowledge about the RAF; having aimed to become a pilot before joining the police. He carefully scrutinises the evidence asking questions, not only about the facts, but the military response and enquiries they carried out or should have carried out. He raises some intriguing questions. Many people have written books and have been dismissive and skeptical, while others are firm 'believers'. M S Morgan does not fit with either category, but his findings do raise concerns.
Some of the reviews this book has received from readers: "Brilliant, thorough and thought provoking", "The bible for UFO investigators by a master investigator" & "Refreshingly honest investigations, a true professional".
Review from Graeme Rendell for Shadows of your mind magazine:
Morgan is a former Senior Investigating Officer who has thirty years of experience in solving murders and other serious crimes. Before joining the force, he had dreams of becoming a pilot and whilst never being able to accomplish this, retained an interest in aviation and the RAF. His knowledge of approaching investigations and post-war British military aircraft
operations has been used to good effect in this book, which looks at over thirty separate UFO-related encounters involving RAF or NATO aircraft in British airspace, or British Overseas Territories.
In addition to simply recounting these incidents, the author sums each case up by presenting his own verdict, based on UK Civil Law’s “Balance of Probabilities”. Some are “Proven”, others “Not Proven”, and there are still more that he suggests do not have enough detail to allow him to reach a decision. Morgan also provides his reasoning for each decision, in some cases taking a page or more to do so. The author has endeavoured to treat the cases as though they were possible criminal acts, ones that he would have been called upon to investigate as a police officer. The telling of each incident is therefore treated along the lines of a case file. Cases are well structured in terms of their timelines, laying out the evidence where it exists, providing witness testimony, supporting information and then reaching a conclusion – or not, as the case may be. The National Archive file references are given where possible to assist readers in their own research. In addition, Morgan also devotes brief chapters to the Condign Report, DI55, UK Civil Air Authority “Airprox” near-misses with possible UFOs and the UK Government’s reaction to the infamous Rendlesham Forest case of December 1980.
There is plenty in this book to sink one’s teeth into. A wealth of information on post-war British cases involving military aircraft and personnel awaits, with some of the cases being relatively obscure and little reported elsewhere. Others are more well-known, but I found details and insights that I had not gained from other books. Morgan does not come across as a “true believer”, but simply someone who wants to get to the truth of the matter. The addition of a professional investigator’s verdict for each case is novel and it was interesting to see whether my own assessments of the incidents agreed with the author’s. The book is well-written and does not suffer from obvious typos or other grammar defects. If one is looking for faults, they will not find any, although the lack of supporting images or copies of documents may be a slight issue for some. I had no problem with this and enjoyed reading the book. It is a worthy addition to the shelves of someone interested in British UFO cases.
