About The Indian Bride :
The Indian Bride is the story about Reena Oberoi an event planner who lives in British Columbia, Canada. The takes place in the year 2000 when flip phones ruled, text messages were a mode of communication that was new and emojis, WhatsApp and Instagram were not born.
Reena was brought up by conventional, typical Indian parents whose main objective is to get all their children married into respectful households through arranged marriages. Reena had passed the acceptable age for an Indian Bride, she is thirty years old, lives on her own in Kelowna, and is independent. Her parents fear that their child will become a spinster and their Indian values compel them to arrange Reena’s marriage to a suitable boy from a suitable household like they did for Reena’s brother Anil and her sister, Rani.
The problem is, that Reena believes no arranged marriages are happy. She sees it in Anil’s and Rani’s marriages where she is convinced they married out of obligation and there is no love between the spouses. She even sees it in her parents’ marriage where everything is traditional and by the book. She has not witnessed romance or love between her parents, her brother and his spouse or her sister and her husband. If she ever gets married, Reena wants it to be with someone she is in love with, with someone who takes her breath away and someone who would cross the ocean for her.
To avoid getting married to what she considers an unsuitable match, Reena seeks the help of someone she meets on the way to visit her parents. Little does she know that this ‘someone’ will turn her world upside down. Thus begins strands of unfortunate events, chaos, misunderstandings, heartbreaks, lies, betrayals, truths and most importantly love. But is love alone enough for this Indian Bride, will love concur all?
