Synopsis

Robert L. Walden contributed to the Wellington community in as many capacities as any individual in village history. He was elected to the town council and later became mayor. He was the village solicitor, an attorney, a school board member, World War I Draft board appeal, World War II OPA board chairman, legal consultant to the First Wellington Bank, Kiwanis president and library trustee, as well as a journalist, editor, author, poet, photographer, teacher, dairy farm operator, and most importantly, historian. At age 85, in 1954, Mr. Walden wrote a series of columns called “Sidelights to the Willard Story,” about his memories and knowledge of Archibald M. Willard, famous painter of the “Spirit of ‘76” and the village of Wellington, Ohio. In Memory Lane, Volume III, I retell Mr. Walden’s story, illustrated with period photographs and Willard paintings. In addition I have added a chapter of the Wellington photographs you have come to expect from the Memory Lane, Wellington, Ohio books
