How do you place value on something like an idea? What is an idea worth? A good idea brings about positive change; however, an idea is only as valuable as your ability to execute it. There are a lot of good ideas out there, but a good idea without a strong work ethic behind it won’t get very far. Steve Jobs explained the process of how to use an idea to produce a good product. He said, “It’s not by having great ideas; it’s having a basic idea and then working very hard through trial and error until the product finally evolves from okay to great. Scully, the former CEO of Apple Inc., thought that a really great idea was 90 percent of the work. The prob-lem here is that there must be a great amount of craftsmanship between a great idea and a great product. As that great idea evolves, it changes and grows, and everyday you discover a new problem or a new opportunity to fit these things together a little differently. It’s that process that is the magic.” Steve Jobs’ statement gives us an understanding of how innovation starts with an idea, and through smart execution and careful planning, it becomes remarkable. It took thirty years before the iPod’s full value was understood.
