Synopsis

Inspired by Lenny Solomon, the creator of Schlock Rock, Leora Rosen set out to develop her own brand of Jewish musical parody in The Bohemian Haggadah. She was intrigued by Schlock Rock's success in using entertainment through parody as a vehicle for Jewish education and a source of inspiration for Jewish practice. Based on this model, The Bohemian Haggadah incorporates key elements of the standard, traditional Passover Haggadah with parodies of popular songs that are fun to sing, and that also have educational objectives. Thus, for people unfamiliar with Hebrew, the English lyrics to some of the parodies may contribute to their understanding of favorite Passover songs such as The Four Questions set to the music of Simon and Garfunkel's Scarborough Fair, and Dayenu set to the music of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. The entertainment plus educational objective is particularly true for the Hallel and Nirtzah sections in the second half of the Seder, which are often rushed through or skipped altogether. Parodies in these sections include Psalms set to the music of The Sound Of Silence, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Let it Go from the Disney movie, Frozen, and My Heart Will Go On from the movie Titanic. For lovers of Golden Oldies, there is Chad Gadya set to the music of Elvis's Jailhouse Rock, and Ki Lo No-eh, set to the music of Blue Suede Shoes. Other parodies based on Passover themes include Beethoven's Ode to Joy, What Comes Next? from the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, Memory from Cats, Bye Bye Love by the Everly Brothers, and Freddy Mercury's Bohemian Rhapsody. Together with a child-friendly narrative of the Exodus story, The Bohemian Haggadah is fully illustrated in color to help make your Seder a fun-filled, inspiring experience for the whole family.
