Using a case study method, the author explores the contribution which the arts (such as music, fiction, narrative, poetry, the visual arts) can make to the preaching ministry of the church, and how the arts can be effectively and naturally used in that ministry. He considers preaching as an art, and the theology of creativity as it relates to the arts. The focus is on sermons which allow an art form to communicate the message of faith without the overt didacticism associated with Protestant preaching. The book is the publication of the doctoral project paper which he wrote as a report of the case study.Rev. Dr. Chris Petrak is an ordained minister who served Presbyterian Churches in Kittanning, Homer City, and Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, and the Congregational Church in Newfane, Vermont. A graduate of Wayne State University and Princeton Theological Seminary, he earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
