Golding promises John a studio in the village if he will paint an altarpiece for East Bergholt Church – he hopes that John will remain to work with him at the Mill. John is not good at finishing paintings, but then he meets Maria and his whole life changes…

T P Nash was brought up in East Bergholt, where John Constable grew up. He worked as a rural architect and an artist and has taught drawing courses at Flatford Mill. He has written five novels, four plays, all performed, and numerous short stories. He has an MA in Fine Art and lives in a small South Norfolk village.
