Synopsis

A TIME TRAVEL ADVENTURE SET IN LONDON PAST AND FUTURE

Fifty-One, by south London science fiction writer Chris Barnham, is a mind-bending, time travel love triangle, set in past and future London.

Jake Wesson is sent back from 2040 to Blitz-era London, to stop the assassination of Winston Churchill. The assignment complete, the jump home goes wrong, stranding Jake in war-ravaged 1944. Stuck in the past, Jake tries to blend in. He clings to the one familiar face he can find, Amy Jenkins, a war widow whose life he saved.

Drawn to each other by loneliness, thrown together by the terror of war, Jake and Amy look to a future together. But Jake’s future cannot let him go. When his bosses finally find him in 1944, he faces a terrible choice: risk unravelling the modern world…or let Amy die.

Fifty-One is a page-turning blend of science fiction thriller and historical romance. Lost in the past, Jake builds a new life with Amy, forgetting the woman he loved in 2040. When his future claims him back, he discovers that not only must he give Amy up, he must also ensure she meets the fate that history has in store for her, or risk destroying the future.

“When it comes to time travel, alternate history and the human heart, I would trust few writers more than Chris Barnham.” - Nicholas Royle, author of First Novel.
"Better plotted than Connie Willis." - Interzone magazine.
"Stylish tale. The film noir prose and slow-mounting tension are reminiscent of a detective mystery. In spite of its realistic depiction of wartime London, it is bona fide escapism. It’s easy to get through and great for fans of sci-fi genre-blends." - Shoreline of Infinity magazine.
