When the Circus Leaves Town explores one of the most significant and often overlooked changes in modern football: what happens when clubs leave the grounds they have called home for generations.
From iconic terraces and floodlit town-centre stadiums to retail parks, housing developments and purpose-built arenas, Dave Proudlove examines the profound impact of football's migration from its traditional homes. Travelling across the country, he investigates how relocations reshape communities, alter supporter traditions and change the relationship between clubs and the places they represent.
Part football book, part travelogue and part social history, When the Circus Leaves Town asks what is really gained and lost when the game moves on. Thoughtful, insightful and richly researched, it offers a fascinating perspective on the changing landscape of football and the communities that live in its shadow.
